About

My name is Shaun Stevenson and I am currently lecturing Philosophy at Manchester Metropolitan University.

The material I am currently lecturing on includes the philosophy of religion, modern philosophy, metaphysics and non-Western philosophies of religion.

Death is salvation, not perdition.

I started this blog as I have an interest in using philosophy as a way of life. Philosophy is at its best when it is pragmatic. I want to focus on the ways that understanding death can help make the subject less taboo and bring into the light of everyday life. I believe knowing death as an ally and not an enemy is a useful start to living a happy life. Death is salvation, not perdition.

My doctoral thesis was titled Positively Dead: An examination of the concept of the death drive in Gilles Deleuze’s Difference and Repetition. I have explored death in the works of Lucretius, Spinoza, Nietzsche, Deleuze, Blanchot and Hegel to name a few. I am in the process of turning my essay into a manuscript for publication.

I am a member of the British Society for Phenomenology, a qualified Mental Health First Aider and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
